The sector is at the definitive turning point to make an exponential leap in the number of biomethane plants in Spain in the coming years, following the example of other European countries that since 2018 have multiplied their installations thanks to a favorable regulatory framework and an ecosystem. of facilitators -technologists and promoters- very dynamic.

Denmark, with 10 firms, was the guest country at the II Renewable Gas Show.

In 2022, the Nordic country will have 200 biogas plants in operation; Half are agroindustrial and produce more than 85% of the country's biogas, while the rest of the facilities are related to water purification plants (50), landfills (30) and industries (8).

Denmark is the European country that injects the most biomethane into the gas network. Nearly 30% of this renewable gas, from 55 plants, is already circulating through the natural gas infrastructure. The Danish government's goal is to cover all of the country's domestic demand with biomethane by 2035.

The Danish biogas model seeks maximum efficiency in the use of resources; For example, it prefers to build fewer large plants than many small capacity plants, or it analyzes in detail the convenience of investing in local applications of biomethane or prioritizing its injection into the grid.

The undisputed public support for the development of the sector in Denmark is behind its success. Not only due to the implementation of economic support measures, but also due to the simplification of procedures and the elimination of barriers. For example, all Danish municipalities must define suitable locations for installing biogas plants in their spatial planning plans. The objective of the Danish authorities is to reduce the investor's risk as much as possible.

In parallel, the 14th International Bioenergy Congress who presented 39 speakers and 397 attendees.

In its first edition, the Renewable Gas Show was held jointly with Expobiomasa and it was confirmed that there are mature technologies capable of obtaining multiple products, reducing emissions and producing renewable energy from waste management. Spain could be at the top of the countries that obtain the most energy from renewable gas in 2050.

Nearly 400 professionals, mainly from Latin America, Spain and Portugal, attended the 14th International Bioenergy Congress (#CIB21) that was held parallel to the Show.
