France inaugurates 3 biomethane plants a week.
The euphoria experienced by the renewable gases sector was reflected in the extraordinary success of the III Renewable Gas Exhibition, organized by the Spanish Biomass Association (AVEBIOM) with the support of the Spanish Biogas Association (AEBIG) as a technological partner.
«From the Renewable Gas Show we want to contribute to strengthening the links between France and Spain to accelerate the start-up of plants in our country.«
Javier Díaz, president of AVEBIOM
Biomethane from agricultural and livestock origin in Spain is key.
For the European Union to be capable of producing 35 bcm of biomethane in 2030, Spain must accelerate the construction of plants in the coming years, since it is the third country in generation potential. Potential that, 80%, is linked to agricultural waste and by-products, whose mobilization requires improving logistics and, above all, involving farmers and ranchers in the new activity.
The need for collaboration between all more than
competence to overcome barriers and achieve well-armed projects, supported by knowledge. Biomethane is not a bubble, but a necessary activity to combat climate change and increase our energy sovereignty.
France guest country with 22 exhibitors. He showed his successful strategy with renewable gases. France promotes the biomethane industry with measures and incentives due to its strategic role in reducing emissions and its energy dependence: from 2021 to the end of 2022, three biomethane plants have been inaugurated per week and it is the European country where production grows the most ( 2,130 GWh in 2021), ahead of powers such as Denmark or Germany.
In 2021, 4,3 TWh of biomethane were injected into French natural gas networks, 96% more than the previous year, according to the French Ministry of Energy Transition. In biogas alone, production was 10,4 TWh, although the capacity reaches 25,4 TWh.

«We can learn from our neighbors to take advantage of our biomethane potential, which is the third in the EU, to replace 45% of the fossil gas we consume«
Francisco Repullo, president of AEBIG
