The AB Group, global sponsor of the Renewable Gas Show 2025 , has signed a framework agreement with Elevion Group for the development and maintenance of five biogas to biomethane upgrading plants in the Italian regions of Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy.
Thanks to the agreement, facilities with capacities ranging from 350 to 900 Smc/h will be built, all equipped with AB's BIOCH4NGE® technology, based on highly selective membranes for purifying biomethane. In addition, each plant will incorporate complete systems for injecting into the national gas network, as well as a full-service maintenance plan to guarantee maximum availability and performance.
The estimated environmental impact is significant: a saving of 50.000 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year is expected , thanks to the use of local agricultural and livestock by-products, in a circular economy model and integrated value chain.
AB President Angelo Baronchelli emphasizes that the initiative contributes to the objectives of Italy's National Energy and Climate Plan in the biomethane sector. Claudio Sanna , CEO of Elevion Group Italy , highlights the reliability of AB's technology and service network as key factors in strengthening the alliance.
In addition to its collaboration with Elevion Group (a European provider of comprehensive decarbonization and energy efficiency solutions), AB develops projects in other areas of the biomethane value chain. A recent example is the San Nazzaro Sesia plant (Novara), where BIOCH4NGE® technology is used to produce high-quality biomethane from organic waste and sludge.
Part of this production is destined for sustainable mobility, supplying LNG and CNG trucks for Iveco , an international manufacturer of commercial vehicles headquartered in Italy with production facilities in Spain. This type of initiative reinforces the role of biomethane as a renewable fuel in heavy transport.
