The 17th International Bioenergy Congress (#CIB24) advances the program of conferences and round tables that will be held on October 1 and 2 at Feria de Valladolid, in parallel to the 4th Renewable Gas Exhibition, under the motto “Renewable gases: the great allies in the defossilization of the Spanish economy.”
CIB24 will have nearly 50 speakers who will address from all angles how to take advantage of the growing potential of renewable gases, such as biogas and biomethane, to defossilize our economy in an efficient and sustainable way.
Javier Diaz, president of AVEBIOM, assures that
“The sessions have been designed so that experts, researchers and professionals in this energy sector can present the latest technical innovations and discuss with the audience the best way to face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that will make it possible to get the most out of renewable gases. ”.
Thus, we will talk about injection into existing gas networks; about the current and future regulatory framework that regulates the production and use of biogas in Spain and about the integration of biomethane into local realities to promote a circular economy that lasts.
On the other hand, several have been selected success stories which demonstrate how renewable gases can be effectively integrated into various sectors and contribute significantly to defossilization. For example, a tourist resort that converts its waste into energy and fertilizers or a project that valorizes byproducts from olive oil production.

We will know first hand exceptional projects, which are leading the transition towards a more sustainable model, from anaerobic digestion plants for urban sludge to projects to expand biomethanation plants. New technological developments will also be presented for the purification and generation of renewable gases from biomass and waste or more efficient and sustainable CO2 liquefaction technologies.
The promotion of consumption biogas and biomethane will be another of the central topics, with presentations dedicated to how to integrate it into the primary sector and its evaluation in terms of life cycle. Synergies between biogas and green methanol production will be analyzed, and how new biogas plants facilitate the development of different applications for CO2, which can further contribute to global decarbonization.
Luis Puchades, president of AEBIG, maintains that
“The presentations have been selected under strict technical and market criteria so that the congress is the access point to the highest quality information available for all agents involved in the deployment of renewable gases in the peninsula and America.”
Roundtables for key discussions
CIB24 will have three round tables in which front-line actors will participate and will address critical issues. The first round table will discuss how to develop the biomethane production potential in Spain from the level of implementation of policies.
The social round table will try to resolve the questions that projects for new biogas and biomethane installations generate in citizens. And the third and last round table will deal with the topic of digested or digestates, exploring possible ways of managing this byproduct of anaerobic digestion
The International Bioenergy Congress (CIB 2024) will be held this year on October 1 and 2, 2024 at Feria de Valladolid, in parallel to the 4th Renewable Gas Exhibition, organized by the Spanish Biomass Association (AVEBIOM) with the collaboration from its technical partner, the Spanish Biogas Association (AEBIG)
