Miramundo Enagas renewable biomethane plant

Bioreciclaje de Cádiz and Enagás Renovable are working with Waga Energy to develop a biomethane plant in Medina Sidonia.

Bioreciclaje de Cádiz and Enagás Renovable have formed a partnership to develop a biomethane production plant at the Medina Sidonia Controlled Deposit (Cádiz), in collaboration with Waga Energy, which will install and operate its patented technology. WAGABOX® to recover biogas from the landfill.

The facility will come into operation in 2027 and will produce about 80 GWh of renewable energy per year, a volume equivalent to the consumption of 16.000 households. Thanks to the replacement of fossil gas with biomethane, the emission of 21.000 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year.

The project will be located in the Miramundo-Los Hardales Environmental Complex, which manages approximately 340.000 tons of waste from 34 municipalities in the province of Cádiz each year. Currently, the biogas from the complex is partially used to produce electricity and heat; the new unit will directly inject biomethane into the gas grid, increasing its energy value and strengthening the region's energy independence.

A public-private partnership with a vision for the future

The initiative has the participation of Valoriza Environmental Services and GS Inima, private partners of Bioreciclaje de Cádiz, along with the Provincial Waste Consortium. The Consortium Board approved the launch of the project in July, which will be developed under a long-term collaborative model: Waga Energy, exhibitor at the show, will provide the biogas purification service until 2038, and the company formed by Bioreciclaje de Cádiz and Enagás Renovable will be responsible for injecting and marketing the biomethane.

According to Antón Martínez, CEO of Enagás Renewable"With the construction of this new biomethane plant in collaboration with Bioreciclaje de Cádiz and Waga Energy, we are taking another step forward in efficient waste management and promoting the energy transition in our country."

Enagás Renovable is a Premium sponsor of the 5th Renewable Gas Show and participates in the 18th International Bioenergy Congress.
