Calpech Nanoparticles Biogas Renewable Gas Hall International Bioenergy Congress 2025

Calpech will showcase its nanotechnology to maximize the performance and sustainability of biogas plants.

The Alicante-based company Calpech will be exhibiting at the trade fair and also at the International Bioenergy Congress, presenting its innovative solution based on carbon-coated iron nanoparticles obtained from agricultural waste.

The application of nanotechnology to biogas production will be one of the main topics in the 18th International Bioenergy Congress, which will be held on October 1 and 2 in Valladolid, within the framework of the Renewable Gas Fair.

On Block IV: Technologies in renewable gases II, scheduled for the afternoon of October 1, will speak Calpech, a company that emerged from a research project at the University of Alicante, which has developed a revolutionary additive for biogas plants using carbon-coated iron nanoparticles obtained from agricultural waste.

This solution allows to improve up to 40% the production and quality of biogas, effectively and economically removing hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), a corrosive and toxic component common in plants. It also provides micronutrients that stabilize the biological process and improve the quality of the digested food.

The process, the result of an accidental discovery, stands out for its low cost: these nanoparticles have a price of up to 20 times lower compared to those typically marketed. Currently, Calpech supplies its product to several plants in Spain and plans to expand its activity to other European markets, as recently highlighted. the newspaper El País in a report titled The biogas gurus.

In addition to Calpech, the following will participate in the same Congressional bloc:

  • Ammongas, which will showcase amine and renewable heat technologies to maximize the value of biomethane and reduce emissions.
  • CTC Technology Center, with a presentation on direct electrocatalysis of CO₂ to produce renewable methane.
  • AB Energy, a global sponsor of the Renewable Gas Show and the International Bioenergy Congress, which will contribute its experience in advanced energy solutions for the renewable gas sector.
