Cepsa and PreZero strengthen ties to boost the circular economy and sustainability through biomethane

Ana Castelblanque, Head of Biomethane Business at Cepsa, and Ruth Rivero, Head of Biomethane Strategic Projects at PreZero, made a joint presentation at the 17th International Congress on Bioenergy for demonstrate that collaboration across sectors is essential to maximise the integration and impact of biomethane in the circular economy.

Castelblanque pointed out that thanks to the synergy between energy and waste management companies, it is possible to create an integrated system that allows for maximum use of resources and ensures sustainable biomethane production.

Rivero said biomethane provides an effective solution to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. “Every tonne of waste that is converted into biomethane is one less tonne of waste that is buried, which is a huge environmental advantage.”

Both agreed that, in addition to business collaboration, support from administrations and a clear regulatory framework are essential for biomethane to expand and consolidate in the market. They also advocated policies that encourage the production and use of biomethane, facilitating its connection to the gas grid and promoting its adoption in industrial and transport sectors.

CEPSA was a Global Sponsor of the Renewable Gas Show and the International Bioenergy Congress 2024, and PreZero was a Premium Sponsor.
