The II Renewable Gas Show, held on October 5 and 6 at Feria de Valladolid, concludes, tripling the number of visitors from its first edition. A total of 2.296 professionals from 20 countries gathered at an eminently technical event, the most important held by the renewable gas sector in the Iberian Peninsula.
The sector, which has proven to be united and strong, believes it is necessary and possible to update the objective established by the Biogas Roadmap. Proposes a goal of replacing the 10% of the gas consumed in Spain in 2030 by biomethane and demands that measures be activated without delay to accelerate the national production of this renewable gas. This will involve the implementation of hundreds of installations.
Spain could be generating 45 TWh of biomethane in 2030, becoming the fourth producing country in Europe, and reach 122 TWh in 2050 to rise to third place thanks to the implementation of technologies, processes and business models shown these days that will be in charge to valorize all types of base materials, including those hitherto little used.
Javier Díaz, president of the Spanish Biomass Association, organizer of the event, shares “the enthusiasm of the hundreds of professionals who have attended the event with the purpose of developing new projects in Spain that, without a doubt, will contribute to the decarbonization of our economy and make it more competitive.
AVEBIOM is working to activate the interest of raw material producers and generate continuous dialogue between agricultural and agroindustrial agents with the administration. In fact, Javier Díaz points out, “The Secretary of State for Energy was able to confirm in person that “there is a sector” during her visit to the fair.”
A packed congress that reflects the enormous dynamism experienced by the renewable gases sector
In parallel to the show, the 15th edition of the International Bioenergy Congress took place, which had 52 speakers, 30 oral presentations and 583 attendees. Cutting-edge technologies with enormous projection have been presented, such as biological methanation of CO2 from biogas, innovative products in compression and cleaning of renewable gases or processes to obtain base chemical products with high added value. Furthermore, we have learned in detail about the new biomethane plants installed in Spain in recent months, the Danish biogas model and the market situation analyzed by opinion leaders in the sector.
David Fernández, vice president of AEBIG, technological partner of the event, assures that “We are at the definitive turning point to make an exponential leap in the number of biomethane plants in Spain in the coming years, following the example of other European countries that since 2018 have multiplied their installations thanks to a favorable regulatory framework and an ecosystem of facilitators -technologists and promoters- very dynamic.”
A new edition in 2023
Starting today, the Spanish Biomass Association and the Spanish Biogas Association are working on the next edition to be held in October 2023.
