Closing of the Renewable Gas Fair

The renewable gas sector confirms its good momentum and faces new challenges

The fourth edition of the Renewable Gas Fair exceeds its target for this year with 3.615 accredited participants and remains the most profitable forum for closing business deals and generating contacts that lead to the construction of hundreds of new biogas and biomethane plants throughout the country.

“In 2023 we experienced an edition full of euphoria, in which new projects were being developed that are now in full process and facing different challenges. The technologies are mature, as demonstrated by the high level of our exhibitors and professional visitors; but now it is time to achieve the unconditional support of the administration and the full social acceptance of essential facilities to successfully complete our energy transition,” summarizes Javier Diaz, president of the Spanish Biomass Association, organizer of the fair.

Most professionals who have visited the show are interested in learning about or expanding their knowledge of different technological solutions; thus, technologies for producing biogas have been the area of greatest interest for 24% of attendees, while 10,5% of professionals have come looking for technologies for upgrade to obtain biomethane.

The show attracted 29% of visitors interested in promoting new plants or already operating facilities, and around a quarter of attendees work in the raw materials management environment.

Moreover, the 17th International Bioenergy Congress The event was attended by a record 880 people, 10% more than in 2023. Ninety speakers have shown the latest technological and market advances and have discussed with special emphasis on the specific measures to complete the hundreds of projects that are already in the pipeline. These include streamlining permits, adopting the best available practices and improving dialogue with citizens.

The last round table of the congress, dedicated to analyzing the value chain from raw material to digest, presented several success stories and highlighted the urgency of expanding communication channels with farmers and ranchers, true pillars of any project.

En este sentido, Blas Donis, president of the agricultural union UPA Palencia, said that the primary sector in Spain is technologically advanced and open to adopting profitable options that allow them to comply with environmental regulations, but he called for the conversation to be maintained in an honest manner with its members.

The 4th Renewable Gas Fair reaffirms its position as a key event for the future of the renewable gas sector in Spain. The organisers are already working on the next edition in 2025 to continue promoting technological innovation and collaboration between all the actors involved in the development of the sector.
