Elqui Global Energy promotes the production of biogas, livestock feed and carbon credits using cacti in Mexico

The cactus is an important resource that generates jobs, food, energy and carbon credits, and represents an opportunity for environmentally friendly and profitable businesses.

The first step to obtain cacti in large volumes is to use genetically selected cacti that provide high yields of up to 1.000 tons of biomass per hectare and year. The technology of the Mesicana firm allows the use of desert areas, with water scarcity or without agricultural interest for its transformation.

The second step is to use anaerobic digesters. Biogas production is 20 times faster than those used with manure, does not produce hydrogen sulfide or waste and guarantees 24-hour energy delivery, 365 days a year. The construction cost is 1.500 -2.000 dollars / installed KW.

Its scaling would allow biogas with 94% purity to be injected into natural gas conduction lines or into vehicles converted to natural gas. And its application is interesting for medium and large energy consumers, cement companies and food processors, among others.

Elqui Global Energy has presented this project for the innovation award at the first #RenewableGas Show.
