Enagas Renovable, plans to develop three biomethane projects in San Javier, Las Torres de Cotillas and Santomera (Region of Murcia), with a total investment that exceeds 75 million euros.
These plants, which will come into operation in 2027, will have a joint generation capacity of more than 200 GWh of renewable energy per year, jointly managing around 400.000 tons of local organic waste per year, and will generate 360.000 tons of available digestates. for the manufacture of solid organic fertilizers and fertigation. In addition, it is expected to generate 75 direct jobs and another 360 indirect jobs, allowing the area to be energized at an economic and demographic level.
In welcoming the event, which was attended by around 50 people from the institutional, energy, agricultural and industrial fields, as well as partners of Enagás Renovable in the development of biomethane plants, the mayor of the town highlighted: “The biomethane generation are the best solution defined by Europe for the management of organic waste. These are plants framed in the circular economy that allow biowaste from the primary sector to be transformed into renewable gas, intended to displace natural gas, and organic fertilizers that can be returned to the field as a sustainable solution.
The presentation day of the project took place in Santiago de la Ribera, next to the Mar Menor, and included the participation of Fernando López Miras, President of the Region of Murcia; José Miguel Luengo Gallego, Mayor of San Javier; and Antón Martínez Rodríguez, CEO of Enagás Renovable, in an event attended by around 50 people from the institutional, energy, agricultural and industrial fields, as well as Enagás Renovable partners in the development of biomethane plants.
Enagás Renovable also has a notable track record in launching biomethane projects in different locations, in which, among others, the protection of natural and cultural environments, sustainable waste management and the circular economy are prioritized. .
