Biogas Conference

Conference on biomethane as a renewable energy alternative in Castile and León

On June 27th , AVEBIOM will participate in the information session “Biomethane as an energy and renewable alternative” , organized by El Norte de Castilla at the Parador Nacional de Segovia.

The session will bring together representatives from the agricultural sector, the biogas industry, and organizations involved in the development of biomethane as a key vehicle for the energy transition and the circular economy in rural areas.

The institutional opening will be led by the Minister of Environment, Housing and Territorial Planning of the Junta de Castilla y León, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones.

The panel discussion , moderated by journalist Susana Gutiérrez García , will include:

  • Javier Diaz, president of AVEBIOM
  • David García de Herreros, project development director of Verdalia Bioenergy
  • Pedro Matarranz, secretary of UPA Segovia
  • Fernando Suarez, honorary member of AEBIG – Spanish Biogas Association

Verdalia Bioenergy is a European platform specializing in biomethane, backed by Goldman Sachs, which has begun operations in Spain with the acquisition of an initial portfolio of projects with a combined capacity of approximately 150 GWh/year . It is currently working on developing these initiatives in various autonomous communities, collaborating with the agricultural sector to valorize waste and produce biomethane, biofertilizers, and reusable water. Although its plants are not yet operational, the company is making progress in consolidating its circular economy model in rural areas.

The colloquium will address the opportunities offered by biomethane to reduce emissions, generate local employment, and utilize agricultural and livestock by-products through proven technologies.

“We have proven technology to utilize many organic waste products and byproducts from the primary sector. Biomethane can be an irreplaceable tool for decarbonizing our agriculture and livestock farming,” says Javier Díaz , president of AVEBIOM.

The event is taking place in a favorable context: Castile and León, and in particular the province of Segovia, have a high potential for biomethane production thanks to the concentration of agricultural and livestock farms, the availability of residual biomass, and the existence of energy infrastructure that can be connected to the grid. This combination positions the region as a strategic territory for advancing the deployment of this renewable energy source.

The day will begin at 10:15 a.m. and will conclude with a networking reception.
