France promotes the biomethane industry with measures and incentives due to its strategic role in reducing emissions and its energy dependence: from 2021 to the end of 2022, three biomethane plants have been inaugurated per week and it is the European country where production grows the most ( 2,130 GWh in 2021), ahead of powers such as Denmark or Germany.
In 2021, 4,3 TWh of biomethane were injected into French natural gas networks, 96% more than the previous year, according to the French Ministry of Energy Transition. In biogas alone, production was 10,4 TWh, although the capacity reaches 25,4 TWh.
In that year, 365 biomethane facilities operated and 940 projects were in development. In the last two years, the number of plants has doubled and there are now more than 600 in operation, with three out of four projects aimed at grid injection.
The biomethane industry reduces emissions and diversifies the French economy, creating jobs in agriculture, livestock and organic waste management. Farmers can reduce costs and earn additional income.
France will be represented with 22 exhibitors showing its technology and with numerous presentations from professionals, who will share the keys to accelerate the development of biogas and biomethane plants in Spain.
