Trovant Technology's NIDUP technology candidate for the innovation award at the first #RenewableGas Show

Current biogas upgrading solutions are based on physical-chemical technologies: membrane separation, pressure change adsorption, water or chemical scrubbers and amine/solvent absorption systems. However, those seeking small-scale upgrading alternatives are limited to “scaled down” versions of these technologies and encounter these common limitations:

  • They are energy-intensive processes, requiring high pressures (up to 20bar) and/or high temperatures.
  • They require biogas preconditioning.
  • They do not include a process for capturing and storing CO2 extracted from biogas.
  • They present significant economies of scale: their investment and operating costs increase drastically on a small scale.

Trovant Technology has developed NIDUP technology, the simple and efficient solution designed for small-scale biogas upgrading, supported by biological processes and highly efficient for small biogas production, reducing both investment and operation costs. The main key characteristics of NIDUP that distinguish it from its competitors in small-scale biogas upgrading are:

  • Savings in operating costs: up to 70%
  • Designed to operate with any biogas from any waste, thanks to the fact that the technology integrates a desulfurization stage.
  • No waste is generated in the process

The main objective of the NIDUP technology is small-scale upgrading, considered as such a facility that treats a quantity of raw biogas of 200 m3 or less, an amount that can come from a wastewater treatment plant in a medium-sized city ( 100.000-500.000 equivalent inhabitants), residues from 9.000 heads of pigs or 1.000 heads of cattle.

This technology is intended for small and medium-sized urban wastewater treatment plants and companies in the waste treatment sector, which are currently producing biogas from organic waste and are interested in improving part of their production to obtain a source additional income or use it for self-consumption in mobility.
