Métha-Vie: a group of 19 farmers committed to bioNGV

Métha-Vie is an important project of 19 French farms, conceived 9 years before its implementation. After a very long administrative procedure, it is demonstrated that this is the main obstacle to achieving energy independence in countries like France or Spain, since environmental biogas or biomass projects in other countries like Germany manage to reduce processing times to the fourth part.

Finally, a 9 million euro project has been launched, providing 600.000 euros of capital. Several public entities participate in the operation and have extensive bank financing. The plant already invoices 2,4 million euros annually and has around 500.000 euros in operating costs. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week thanks to its 4 employees.

In Métha-Vie they have been producing biogas and bioNGV since 2021, which they use for the mobility of passenger cars, vans, trucks, buses and coaches. It takes about 60 days to obtain biomethane from the different materials that reach the methanizers. They basically use 2.800 tons of agricultural waste from cereal crops, 1.400 tons of bird droppings, 22.650 tons of cattle manure and waste from a local dairy. About 110 tons of manure supplied by the 19 farms involved enter every day. Arrivals are made by trucks that run on bioNGV.

The materials are automatically injected into 8-meter-high stainless steel tanks at a certain rate to optimize the process that mixes 70% liquid materials and 30% solid waste. Where anaerobic digestion occurs thanks to slow agitation, achieving a biogas that is not flammable at controlled temperature and pressure. At the outlet of the methanizer, and before being injected into the network, the gas is purified and odorized. The plant maintains a production of 270 Nm3/h.

By changing the fertilization of the fields of the 19 farms with slurry for digestate, the population has forgotten about bad odors, something that nearby populations value very positively.
