Naturgy to supply biomethane to Aena to decarbonise Spanish airports

Naturgy and Aena have signed an agreement to supply biomethane to Aena's airport network, with the aim of promoting the decarbonisation of its operations.

The contract provides for the supply of approximately 83 GWh of natural gas over the next two years, of which at least 20 GWh will be biomethane. The volume of renewable gas expected is equivalent to the annual consumption of around 4.000 homes and will be used to heat airport terminals, thus contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions at Aena facilities.

Naturgy manages a broad portfolio of biomethane projects in different stages of development throughout the country and already has three of its own production plants in operation. In addition, the company has signed a strategic alliance with Hispania Silva for the construction of at least 20 biomethane production plants, which could reach up to 30, with the aim of generating 2,5 TWh of this renewable gas per year before 2030.

This agreement is a step forward in the energy transition of the airport sector and reinforces the role of renewable gas as an efficient and competitive solution for the decarbonisation of industries and services in Spain.
