The Barcelona Free Trade Zone is consolidating its position as a hub for environmental innovation with the inauguration of the country's largest Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) plant and the announcement of the future Bioenergy Factory biomethane facility, which will inject gas directly into the gas grid.
PreZero, an exhibitor at the upcoming Renewable Gas Fair, has inaugurated its new SRF plant in Barcelona's Zona Franca, with the capacity to process up to 190.000 tons of non-recyclable industrial waste per year. The facility will transform this waste into up to 70.000 tons of solid recovered fuel, an energy source primarily used in cement plants and industrial plants. In addition, it is expected to recover more than 40.000 tons of recoverable materials.
This center incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as a Digital Twin with augmented reality and artificial intelligence, funded in part by European Next Generation funds.
This project will soon be joined by the construction of Bioenergy Factory, the first biomethane plant in Barcelona with direct injection into the gas grid. This facility will utilize 32.500 tons of organic matter from industrial and commercial sources annually to produce 25 GWh of renewable biomethane, enough energy to supply 12.000 people. The plant was recently awarded the Circular Economy Prize by the Consorci de la Zona Franca.
Both projects represent a joint investment of more than 42 millones de euros and will generate more than 85 direct jobs, as highlighted by Gonzalo Cañete, CEO of PreZero Iberia
